Cheap AK-47 skins that still look good

The AK-47 is the rifle you look at most, so a cheap skin on it has to work hard. The budget AK finishes that look better than their price, which exterior to buy each in, and how to avoid paying for float you will never see.

Cheap AK-47 skins that still look good

The AK-47 is the rifle most players hold for most of every Terrorist half, so it is the first gun people want a skin on and the one where a bad skin is hardest to ignore. The good news is that the AK has an unusually deep bench of cheap finishes that look better than they cost. This guide covers the ones worth buying, which exterior to buy each in, and how to tell in advance whether a cheaper exterior will bother you.

How to judge a cheap AK skin

Three things decide whether a budget AK skin is a good buy, and price is only the last of them:

  • How it looks in first person. In game you see the top of the receiver, the dust cover and the handguard. Open any skin in the viewer and switch to the hands view to see exactly that angle before you spend anything.
  • How it wears. Some finishes look nearly new at Field-Tested; others turn grey and patchy. Drag the float slider through the exteriors and watch the dust cover — it is where wear shows first and where you look most.
  • What it costs across marketplaces. The cheapest offer for the same skin can differ a lot from site to site. Every skin has a price page that puts twelve of them side by side.

Cheap AK-47 skins worth a look

AK-47 | Elite Build

Clean blue and white panels with a technical look. It reads clearly in first person and is one of the cheapest AK skins that does not look cheap. See AK-47 | Elite Build and its prices.

AK-47 | Ice Coaled

Pale blue and black with a cold, glassy feel. It pairs naturally with blue knives and gloves, which makes it a good base for a themed loadout later. See AK-47 | Ice Coaled.

AK-47 | Uncharted

A muted map-and-topography design in browns and greys. It is quiet, but the detail holds up close, and it is often among the cheapest non-default AKs you can buy. See AK-47 | Uncharted.

AK-47 | Safety Net

Bright green rope netting over the gun. Polarising, but it is unmistakable from any angle and costs very little. See AK-47 | Safety Net.

AK-47 | Rat Rod and AK-47 | Phantom Disruptor

Rat Rod is a hot-rod design with flames and chrome-like accents; Phantom Disruptor is purple and black with sharp geometric shapes. Both look more expensive than they are, especially in the lower Field-Tested range.

AK-47 | Blue Laminate and AK-47 | Emerald Pinstripe

Classics from the original game. Blue Laminate gives the wooden furniture a layered blue finish; Emerald Pinstripe is dark green with thin stripes. Both are understated and age well in a loadout.

One step up: AK-47 | Redline

AK-47 | Redline costs more than everything above, but it is the skin many players want first. It never comes in Factory New, and its wear is very visible on the black panels, so pick your copy carefully: compare a low Field-Tested float against a high one in the viewer before you buy.

Which exterior to buy

For most budget AK skins the right answer is Field-Tested with a float near the bottom of the range. The difference between a 0.16 and a 0.37 can be larger than the difference between a 0.16 Field-Tested and a Minimal Wear, and the market prices all Field-Tested copies together. That means a clean Field-Tested copy usually costs barely more than a dirty one.

Two exceptions: finishes with a lot of white or bright colour show scratches early and may be worth Minimal Wear, and finishes that are already dark or busy hide wear so well that Well-Worn can be fine. The viewer shows you which is which in a few seconds.

StatTrak™ and stickers

A StatTrak™ counter on an AK sits on the left side of the receiver, in view while you hold it. On budget finishes it is often a small extra cost, and some players care about it more than the finish. Turn it on in the viewer to see where it lands.

Cheap stickers can make a budget AK look personal. Put them along the top of the receiver or handguard so they are visible in first person, and check placement in the hands view before you apply anything in game.

Questions

What is the cheapest good-looking AK-47 skin?

Elite Build, Uncharted and Safety Net are usually among the cheapest, and Elite Build in particular looks better than its price suggests. Check the price pages, as the cheapest one changes from week to week.

Is a Battle-Scarred AK-47 skin worth buying?

Sometimes. Dark or busy finishes hide wear well. Bright and white finishes do not. Look at the specific skin in the viewer at Battle-Scarred before deciding.

Why are some Field-Tested copies of the same skin more expensive?

Because buyers pay extra for a float near the clean end of the exterior, and occasionally for a pattern or stickers. Our price guide explains when a copy is worth more than its listing.
